Always look beyond

You are enthusiastic and curious. You want to move forward, better, more.... What you know and can do is important, but more important is what you want to know and do. Learning also means that you’re not afraid to say “sorry, I just don’t know (yet)”. That you are able to and will ask questions to your colleagues. And that you also open to colleagues at your turn to help them if they have questions. In our eyes knowledge becomes more valuable by sharing. We share by, amongst others, our open knowledge sessions and our technology blogMore >>>

Wanting

Enthusiasm, curiosity and ability to continue to learn characterize AMIS and AMIS-ers. What you know and can do is important, but more important is what (or the fact that) you want to know and do. Wanting (to learn) means that you’re not afraid to say “sorry, I just don’t know (yet)”. That you are able to and will ask questions to your colleagues. And that you also open to colleagues at your turn to help them if they have questions. And that you express your ambitions - how do you want to develop, what interests you?

Learning

At AMIS, you can gain knowledge and skills in many ways. We use external training partners, but also provide advanced training ourselves. Experienced staff act as oracle and coach for their learning colleagues. We do have an up-to-date library with over 800 current books and a series of magazines. We visit conferences at home and abroad - for example, JavaOne, Oracle Open World, Java Polis, NLJUG JSpring and JFall. Some knowledge can’t be learned from others - for example, because nobody has that specific knowledge yet.  Therefore AMIS frequently runs Beta programs and research on major new developments. On a regular basis, students take part in research as part of their graduation, accompanied by a specialist from AMIS.

Knowing and being able to

At AMIS, learning is also referred to as ProfiLeren – derived from professional learning, but also from profiling. Let your light shine. Clarify what you know, what excites you, and what you are good at. Don’t be afraid to be proud on what you know and what you are capable of. It’s not coincidence that one out of - only three – Dutch ORACLE ACE Directors is employed by AMIS.
We present our knowledge through valuable conferences (JavaOne, Oracle Open World, ODTUG, NLJUG JFall and JSpring) and publications through specialized media like Oracle Technology Network, Java Developer Journal, Java Magazine, ODTUG Technical Journal and Optimize.

Doing and sharing

Knowledge becomes most valuable if you can apply it. Experience is the best way to continue learning. The projects that are run by AMIS on behalf of and in cooperation with our customers and definitely also the consultancy assignments are the main opportunity to put knowledge into practice. At the same time, building, sharing and profiling specialized knowledge is an important way to acquire interesting assignments.
Practice provides valuable contributions to, on one hand, the development of our collection of best practices, standards and guidelines and, on the other hand, to our other repository of reusable components and training material from which we can draw. We try to exchange experiences so that we can collectively take advantage of new insights and experiences.
To capture and share knowledge we, of course, use tools such as intranet search, IM (instant messaging), Wiki and Web Conferencing.
At AMIS we are busy with sharing knowledge - within and outside the walls of our organization. Many companies speak of open source, but at AMIS we’ve taken it a step further: open knowledge. Anyone can join our sessions and workshops and through our publications, presentations and weblog you can freely watch and take full advantage of what we do.
